Amravati: Days ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi 's bags have been inspected in Amravati. Rahul Gandhi is not the first leader to get his bags checked, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde 's bags among other leasers have also been inspected by poll officials in the past days.
Rahul Gandhi's Bags Inspected in Amravati
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who is in Maharashtra ahead of the assembly elections on November 20, had his bags inspected by the Election Commission officials in Amravati, Maharashtra where the Congress scion had gone for a political rally. Apart from his bag, Rahul Gandhi's chopper was also thoroughly checked at the Dhamangaon helipad.
Amit Shah's Bags Checked in Maharashtra's Hingoli
Union Home Minister Amit Shah 's bags were checked by Election Commission (EC) officials in Hingoli district, Maharashtra , on Friday, as part of ongoing checks on high-profile political leaders. This comes amid accusations of Uddhav Thackeray that the Opposition is being unfairly targeted. "Today, during my election campaign in the Hingoli Assembly constituency of Maharashtra, my helicopter was inspected by Election Commission officials. BJP believes in fair elections and a healthy election system and follows all the rules made by the Honourable Election Commission," he tweeted. He added, "We all must contribute to a healthy election system and perform our duties in keeping India as the strongest democracy in the world."
Bag-Checking Controversy
The issue of poll officials inspecting politicians' luggage gained attention after Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray shared a video of his bags being checked. He questioned whether the election officials had inspected the bags of the Chief Minister, the two Deputy CMs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi , and Union Minister Amit Shah. Amid the controversy, Election Commission officials conducted checks on the bags and helicopters of several prominent leaders, including Devendra Fadnavis , Eknath Shinde , and Nitin Gadkari .
