Mumbai Goes Toll-Free For Cars, SUVs: CM Eknath Shinde's Big Announcement Ahead of Elections

In a major announcement, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has announced toll-free entry to Mumbai for all light vehicles from today.

No Toll for Entering Mumbai, Maha CM Makes Big Announcement

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde has made a major announcement ahead of Diwali, for all commuters to Mumbai, travelling to the city by road. 

Shinde made the announcement at the state cabinet meeting in Mumbai. The toll waiver will be in force from midnight on Monday, he said.

The announcement reads, “Toll for light vehicles has been removed from all 5 toll nakas entering Mumbai. Now small vehicles can pass through Dahisar, Mulund, Vashi, Airoli and Teenhath naka without paying toll.”

Eknath Shinde Calls This Decision A ‘Masterstroke’

Reacting to his decision of removing toll tax at Mumbai's entry points, Eknath Shinde has said, “People come to Maharashtra , there was traffic and toll tax. Lakhs of car and bike owners have been exempted from toll tax. We will save fuel, and less traffic. This is a permanent decision, this decision is a masterstroke and historical.”

Other Key Decisions Made by Maharashtra Cabinet

The state cabinet also approved a proposal to name Maharashtra State Skills University after the late Ratan Tata. The veteran industrialist died in a Mumbai hospital at age 86 on October 9.

Maharashtra State Skills University, located in Mumbai, was established in 2022. It offers a wide range of degree and diploma programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Maharashtra cabinet also expressed shock over the killing of former state minister Baba Siddique and adopted a condolence resolution to this effect.
