New Delhi: The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government on Friday unveiled plans to establish a State Capital Region (SCR) centered around Lucknow. Inspired by the success of Delhi-NCR, this ambitious initiative seeks to catalyze rapid urbanization across the state.
Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (SCR):
The newly established Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (SCR) spans across six districts: Lucknow, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Sitapur, and Hardoi, covering a total area of 27,860 square kilometers. This expansive region is designed to facilitate synchronized development efforts.

Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority:
To oversee the comprehensive development of the SCR, the Uttar Pradesh government has instituted the 'Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority.' This central body is tasked with ensuring efficient coordination among various agencies and departments involved in the urbanization process.
Under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the Authority is chaired by the Chief Secretary, with the Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Planning Department serving as the convening member. Membership also includes Divisional Secretaries, Additional Chief Secretaries, and Secretaries from key departments, alongside District Magistrates of the six districts and vice-chairmen of development authorities.

Additionally, representatives from the Government of India and the Ministry of Defence participate as members, with city and village planning officials holding ex-officio roles. The Divisional Commissioner of Lucknow acts as the SCR Authority's Secretary, ensuring effective administration and implementation of development plans.
