JS Sangwan, Border Security Force (BSF) pilot Wing Commander (retd) faces criminal charges for impersonating a senior official. Sangwan impersonated his senior in order to fly Union Home Minister Amit Shah's plane. He has also submitted his resignation from the services in lieu of the events. "Till the time his enquiry is pending, the decision on his resignation cannot be taken," a senior BSF official said in a statement.
According to BSF sources, JS Sangwan had submitted a petition asking for voluntary resignation from the services which is to take effect from October 31. He has already sent the petition twice, first on September 2, the second time on September 16.

The case of impersonation
Larsen and Toubro (L&T) had been allegedly receiving mails from the BSF Air Wing throughout June and July. The BSF Air Wing has repeatedly requested for Sangwan to be given a chance to fly L&T flights, according to reports. The emails claimed that the pilot had 4000 hours of flying experience. The fraudulence in the matter revealed itself when L&T contacted BSF days before the flight which was to fly abroad with Amit Shah.

A complaint in the matter has been registered to the Domestic Airport police station which is under investigation. BSF has also initiated an internal inquiry in the matter. A preliminary investigation has revealed that Sangwan did not have the appropriate qualifications to be able to fly VIPs and that he impersonated a senior colleague while sending the emails. However, it is still not clear as to why a senior officer like Sangwan had expressed interest to fly Shah’s aircraft.
