Businessman Assault Case: Police Uncover Secret Tunnel Inside Main Accused's House in Bengal
The tunnel is said to be 40-feet long which was built beneath the bedroom of the main accused in the assault case.

Kolkata: The cops who are probing the assault on a businessman in West Bengal's Kultali, have uncovered a mysterious tunnel inside the house of the main accused, Saddam Sardar, in South 24 Parganas district. The illicit tunnel reportedly leads to Bangladesh.
The tunnel is said to be 40-feet long which was built beneath the bedroom of the main accused in the assault case.

According to sources, the tunnel was uncovered when police went to raid the house following a complaint by the businessman. When police arrived at the house, the accused allegedly fired upon the cops, leading to the arrest of two women who were later produced before the court.
After reaching the accused's house, police encountered the two women, who were said to be wives of accused brothers (Saddam and Sardul) who were later arrested. One more person, identified as Aftab, was also arrested.

It is learnt that when the police encountered the two women during raids, the accused brothers used this tunnel as an escape route and fled.
It is said that the tunnel is linked to a nearby cannel which flows into Matla river in the Sunderbans beyond which lies the Indo-Bangladesh international border.

As per preliminary probe, the accused brothers have escaped to Bangladesh. Saddam, who is charged with several sections, had been sent to jail and police custody thrice. After walking out of jail, he was accused of trading fake money and extorting businessman from across the country.
Meanwhile, the Opposition in the state has accused the TMC govt of having links with the main accused. More details are awaited.
