In wake of on-going protests that erupted after Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) was passed in Lok Sabha, Government of Tripura has suspended mobile, internet and SMS services for 48 hours as a precautionary measure to prevent "transmission of fake ims videos and texts" and to prevent of ethnic clashes in state. services have been suspended from 2 PM from Tuesday.

"It has been reported by Director General of Police, Tripura that rumors are being mongered about ethnic clashes between tribal and n-tribal in Manu and Kanchanpur areas. This has created a violent situation in area. It has been ticed that SMS, WhatsApp and social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube are being used for transmission of fake ims and videos as well as text messs which have potential to incite violence in State at a larger rate," Tripura government said in a letter.

"In view of situation, state government said that it is prohibiting use of SMS and mobile data for 48 hours, beginning at 2 PM on Tuesday. This shall be applicable for press messs also," letter re.

Citizenship Amendment Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to n-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Banglesh, and Afghanistan. Through this bill, Indian citizenship will be provided to members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities, who have come from three countries to India till December 31, 2014, to put an end to m being treated as illegal immigrants in country. Bill was passed by Lower House of Parliament earlier this year but lapsed with term of previous Lok Sabha during first term of PM Narendra Modi government in Centre.

bill was passed in Lok Sabha with a roaring majority of 311 votes in favour and 80 against Bill. CAB seeks to grant Indian citizenship to n-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Banglesh, and Afghanistan who h fled due to persecution and have sought refuge in India since December 31, 2014, or before.
