MHA: Caregivers, food processing units, mobile recharge utilities permitted to function

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a clarification on the consolidated revised guidelines for the nationwide lockdown to combat the COVID-19 crisis

Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday issued a clarification on consolidated revised guidelines for nationwide lockdown. In a letter dressed to Chief Secretaries of all states, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla revealed that some queries h been received pertaining to services and activities permitted under lockdown. First, he specified that Social Sector under clause 8(i) included attendants and caregivers of senior citizens staying in ir homes.

Bhalla also mentioned that recharge facilities for prepaid mobile connections came under  Public utilities clause. Furrmore, he ded that 'Supply of essential goods' clause implied that even food processing units such as bre factories, milk processing plants, flour mills, etc. in urban areas were allowed to operate. At same time, MHA me it clear that SOP for social distancing must be observed in aforesaid exempted services.

Currently, re are 18985 confirmed vel coronavirus cases in India out of which 3260 persons have recovered while 603 casualties have been reported. dressing a press briefing earlier in day, Lav Aggarwal- Joint Secretary in Ministry of Health said that 1336 fresh vel coronavirus cases were reported in last 24 hours. In same period, 705 persons have recovered, which is highest for any day so far. India's COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 17.48%. Moreover, he stated that re were 61 districts in India which h t reported a single case in last 14 days.

Meanwhile, Indian Council of Medical Research has directed state governments to t use rapid testing kits for next two days. This development comes after various states complained about accuracy of aforesaid kits. Dr.Raman Gangakhedkar- he of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at ICMR conceded that re was a significant variation in positive RT-PCR samples.
