Cattle Smuggling Attempt Foiled Along India-Bangladesh Border Near Meghalaya, One Held
BSF successfully thwarted illegal cattle and contraband smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya.
Shillong: The alert troops of BSF Meghalaya successfully thwarted illegal smuggling attempts along the India- Bangladesh border in Meghalaya by seizing cattle and other contraband items worth more than Rs 16 lakh while being smuggled to Bangladesh through the International border of Meghalaya, an official statement said.
The operation took place on Tuesday near the International border in Meghalaya .
According to BSF, troops of 193 Batallion seized a huge quantity of eatable and contraband items along the Indo- Bangladesh border of East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya .
“The confiscated items were handed over to the concern customs office for further necessary legal action.In another operation, BSF troops of 4th Bn BSF rescued 12 buffaloes from the border area of BOP Hawaitila, while being smuggled to Bangladesh . Apart from the above operations, BSF troops of 200 Bn BSF Meghalaya seized a large quantity of clothing items while being smuggled to Bangladesh from the International border of Meghalaya,” an official statement said.
On September 1, the Border Security Force (BSF) of Meghalaya , in collaboration with the Meghalaya Police, successfully apprehended a Bangladeshi smuggler near the international border in the East Khasi Hills district. The suspect, identified as Mohd Mijan Mia, 49, hails from the Sunamganj district of Bangladesh .
Acting on specific intelligence, the troops of the 193 Bn BSF Meghalaya conducted a joint operation with local police and apprehended Mia in a jungle area close to the border. During initial questioning, he admitted to working as a tout, facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India and participating in smuggling activities. He has since been handed over to the Dangar Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
