Caught on Cam: TMC Councillor Escapes Death In Kolkata After Gunmen's Attempt to Shoot Fails

Beating death by bare margins, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader escaped an assassination attempt on Friday after a shooter's gun malfunctioned.

Kolkata: Beating death by bare margins, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leer escaped an assassination attempt on Friday after a shooter failed to take aim at municipal councillor on Friday evening. 

entire incident was captured on CCTV. Sushanto Ghosh, TMC councillor of Ward 108 in Kolkata Municipal Corporation, was sitting on pavement and having a conversation with two or individuals.

Shortly after, two men on a motorcycle arrived at spot of incident. pillion rider aimed at Ghosh, but his weapon malfunctioned, forcing gunmen to flee.

Ghosh, along with two ors, attempted to pursue m and was able to catch one of shooters who h taken aim as latter was unable to get back on bike.

Taxi Driver Arrested 

Kolkata Police on Saturday arrested one taxi driver in connection with incident taking total number of arrests to two.

arrest took place after taxi driver's name surfaced during grilling of Yuvraj Singh, who tried to fire at Ghosh in sourn part of city's Kasba area from close range on Friday evening, police said.

preliminary investigation revealed that arrested taxi driver, Ahmed, h transported Singh and his associate Iqbal on Thursday night from Howrah station to Port area of city, where y stayed,  police said.

On Saturday morning, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma visited scene to inspect area.

"Investigations are ongoing. Two individuals have been arrested so far, and furr action is being taken. person who was carrying weapon is from Vaishali, Bihar. I can't disclose much at this stage as investigation is still in progress," Verma told reporters.

In a separate video, gunman, who was beaten by crowd, claimed he h not been paid and was only given a photograph with an order to kill councillor. gunman was handed over to police, who are continuing ir investigation into incident.

Reports indicate that gunmen were hired from Bihar.

TMC councillor stated that he h no knowledge of anyone who might have wanted him de. Local MP Mala Roy and MLA Javed Khan later visited him.
