Patna: A newborn baby was stolen from the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Bihar 's Begusarai Sadar Hospital on Sunday. A CCTV footage of the incident showing a woman in red saree entering the SNCU and stealing the baby has surfaced on social media.
Nandini Devi, a resident of Lohia Nagar, had given birth to the child at 10:30 PM on Saturday. When her family arrived at the hospital around 7 PM on Sunday to feed the baby, they found him missing. The father, who had last seen his son around 2 PM, was alerted by his wife that the baby was not being handed over by the nurse, prompting an urgent visit to the hospital.
The viral video shows a woman in a red saree slyly entering the SNCU. As she approaches the newborn, she can be seen pointing towards the baby and appearing to confirm with someone outside if that was the baby to be taken. Moments later, she wraps the baby boy in a cloth and swiftly leaves the room.
In the later half of the woman was seen leaving the hospital with two other women, leading to suspicion surrounding a security guard's involvement.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Pramod Kumar Singh acknowledged the gravity of the situation, noting that the high volume of people in the hospital made it challenging to distinguish between the child's mother and other relatives. Despite this, no hospital staff could clarify how the baby went missing.
The incident has caused unrest within the hospital, with the family demanding the immediate return of their child and expressing frustration over the apparent security lapse. An investigation is underway, with reports indicating that a nurse handed the baby to someone claiming to be requesting it on behalf of Nandini. Authorities are working to resolve the case and locate the missing baby.
