Ludhiana: A patwari posted at Ludhiana was caught red-handed for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000, Punjab Vigilance Bureau said on Saturday.
The accused official has been identified as Anil Narula.
The Vigilance Bureau said that Patwari was arrested after a complaint was lodged by a local against the official.
“The complainant alleged that the accused had demanded Rs 25,000 for providing a 25-year revenue record for mutation of his ancestral land,” Vigilance Bureau said.
Following a preliminary inquiry, a team from the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) set up a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting a bribe. According to the Vigilance Bureau spokesperson, a case has been registered against the official under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police station in Ludhiana.
Further investigation into this case is under progress, spokesperson said.
Earlier this week, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested a woman from Patiala for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in cash along with a cheque for Rs 30,000. The accused, identified as Dimple, resides in the Dhobi Ghat area of Patiala.
According to a spokesperson from the Vigilance Bureau, the arrest followed a complaint from Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Patiala. Kumar claimed that the accused demanded Rs 2 lakh to cancel the recent transfer of his sister-in-law, Poonam Arora, who works as an upper division clerk at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
