The 'Cauvery Calling' rally reached Puducherry on Sunday and was welcomed by Lieutenant Governor Dr. Kiran Bedi. The initiative is on its 13th day, and it took them a fortnight-long journey to reach Puducherry. Sadhguru thanked Dr. Bedi for giving a warm welcome to his entire entourage.
The ‘Cauvery Calling’ initiative
Sadhguru is the founder of the Isha Foundation, a non-profit and spiritual organization. From September 3, he has commenced a motorcycle rally from Talacauvery, the origin of the Cauvery river in Karnataka, which will culminate in Chennai. Around 3500 km would be covered. The aim of the 'Cauvery Calling' rally is to seek public support for the conservation of the Cauvery river. The Isha Foundation has set a target of planting 242 crore trees in the Cauvery basin, thereby revitalizing the river itself and improving the lives of millions of farmers. The focus would be on motivating farmers to switch from water-intensive crops to agroforestry. Basically, Agroforestry implies the practice of growing fruit or timber trees along with full-time crops or on a full-fledged basis.
Dignitaries appreciate Sadhguru's efforts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed spiritual leader Sadhguru's ‘Cauvery Calling’ initiative before the latter embarked on his journey. The PM opined that this would help in harnessing and preventing unnecessary wastage of water. During the course of his travel, Sadhguru met several dignitaries such as Members of Parliament Shobha Karandlaje, OP Raveendranath Kumar and A Chellakumar, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister KP Anbazhaghan, former Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai, Hosur Member of Legislative Assembly SA Sathya and so forth. Earlier in the day, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, Minister for Welfare and Co-operation M Kandasamy and Public Works Department Minister A Namassivayam participated in a function along with Sadhguru to support the 'Cauvery Calling' rally.
