CDS will enhance India's military capabilities: Lieutenant General (Retd) Vinod Bhatia
Lieutenant General (Retd) Vinod Bhatia said that the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) will enhance India's military capabilities and combat effectiveness.

Lieutenant General (Retd) Vid Bhatia on Tuesday said that post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) will enhance India's military capabilities and combat effectiveness. He asserted that this development within India’s forces has been awaited since last two deces. Lieutenant General Bhatia also spoke about how post of CDS will help in getting right equipment for Indian forces.

Lieutenant General (Retd) Vid Bhatia while speaking to news ncy ANI said, “This was pending for last two deces. CDS will enhance military capabilities and combat effectiveness. We are fourth largest military in world, but we are also one of least joint militaries in world. We see CDS in future as a prime military visor to Prime Minister and Defence Minister. He will synergise three services.”

"We have to ensure that new of warfare is multi-domain and multidimensional. CDS will make sure that we will get right equipment... re are a lot of things which needs jointness. budget will be optimally utilised. We have financial power and se are big changes," he ded.
CDS anunced
BJP government on Tuesday anunced that country will be getting its first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Following anuncement, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh welcomed decision and spoke about decision pertaining to armed forces of India. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh termed anuncement as a historic decision which will enable higher defence manment in country. Defence Minister also said that government fulfilled its commitment.

Responsibilities of CDS
- CDS will act as principal military visor to Defence Minister of tri-service matters. three chiefs will continue to vise Raksha Mantri on matters exclusively concerning ir specific service.
- officer is expected to provide integrated inputs of services to relevant authorities. CDS will be a member of Defence Acquisition Council and Defence Planning Committee.
- It is CDS' responsibility to bring about joint-ness in operations, logistics, transport, training, support services, communications, repairs, and maintenance.
- appointed official is also expected to ensure optimal utilization of infrastructure and rationalize it, enhance share of indigeus equipment.
- His role requires officer to evaluate plans for Out of Area Contingencies, as well as or contingencies such as Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief.
- CDS will Defence Capital Acquisition Plan (DCAP), and Two-Year roll-on Annual Acquisition Plans (AAP), as a follow-up of Integrated Capability Development Plan (ICDP), assign inter-services prioritization to capital acquisition proposals based on anticipated budget.
- CDS will be responsible to integrate and rationalise international cooperation plans; prepare strategy papers on military matters for consideration of competent authority.
- CDS will bring about reforms in functioning of three Services aimed at augmenting combat capabilities of Armed Forces. This may, inter-alia; entail rationalization of facilities. Use of indigeus equipment across whole spectrum.
- It will be responsibility of CDS to identify and end obsolete practices, which may have crept in due to colonial legacy.
