New Delhi: Hours, after the Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission over the BJP 's advertisement campaign in election-bound Jharkhand , the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ), has submitted a letter to the Election Commission (EC), urging it to censure and restrain Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for a "gross violation" of the Model Code of Conduct. In its written complaint, the BJP accused Gandhi of "falsely alleging that other states were stealing and snatching opportunities from Maharashtra ."
"We wish to bring to your notice gross violation, of MCC and other electoral and penal laws, by Shri Rahul Gandhi of the Indian National Congress , while the Model Code of Conduct enforced effective 15th October 2024 in the State of Maharashtra (sic)," the complaint read, while citing the objectionable comments.
The BJP has urged the Election Commission to "reprimand, censure, and restrain" Rahul Gandhi from "spreading lies during his campaign" for next week's Maharashtra election.
"We informed the poll panel that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi spread falsehoods in Maharashtra, claiming that the BJP wants to crush the Constitution," said Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, who led the BJP delegation that met with senior election officials.
What Rahul Gandhi Had Said?
During an election rally in Mumbai on November 6, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the production of Apple iPhones and Boeing aeroplanes in other states is being done on the expenses of Maharashtra.
Attacking the BJP, Rahul Gandhi, in the same rally, had further accused the saffron party, along with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), of seeking to destroy the Constitution of India.
"There is a battle of ideology in the country. On one side is the BJP-RSS. On the other side is the INDIA alliance. On one side, there is Ambedkar ji's Constitution, which has unity, equality, love and respect. On the other hand, are the people of the BJP-RSS, who want to destroy the Constitution. But they (BJP-RSS) don't say this openly because if they speak it openly then the whole country will stand against them," the Gandhi scion had stated.
