New Delhi: The central government on Tuesday extended the tenure of Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar’s by 3 months, who was set to retire on May 31, 2024 as his previous extended tenure of 3 months was nearing end. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced on Tuesday the extension of the Delhi Chief Secretary for an additional three months, which will last until August 2024.

Earlier, the Centre had extended the Delhi Bureaucrat’s tenure by 3-month extension, which was set to end on May 31 this year.

Meanwhile, the tenure extension of Naresh Kumar by 3 months came up with major opposition from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government. However, despite the Delhi government’s objections, the Centre gave approval to the extension of his term.

Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar is a 1987 batch IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre. He assumed the charge of the Delhi Chief Secretary in April last year. Earlier, he served as the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh.

As per reports, Kumar was originally scheduled to retire on November 30 of last year, but his tenure was extended by the Centre.
