Jammu: The Narendra Modi government at the Centre has ordered the deployment of 2,000 additional Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the terror-hit Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir, claimed sources. According to the reports, the central government has directed the deployment of over 2,000 BSF personnel, who will be brought from Odisha (Malkangriri) to beef up security along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu. It is being claimed that two battalions of the BSF will be sent to Reasi, Kishtwar, Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir, following which two additional battalions of over 2,000 soldiers will be deployed in Jammu.

The central government’s order has come up amidst increasing terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent past.

On Saturday, one soldier died, while four others were injured as the Army foiled an attack by Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district. A Pakistani terrorist was also killed in the gunfight. The BATs include commandos from the Pakistan Army and terrorists.

The encounter started in the district's Kamkari area following information about possible terrorist movements in the region.

It was the second encounter in the Kamkari area in the past three days.

On July 24, the security forces also neutralised an unidentified terrorist in an overnight gunfight with terrorists in Kupwara's Lolab area. A soldier was killed in the gunfight.
