Centre to set up a unit to monitor the implementation of PMAY-U
The Centre will be set up a unit to monitor the implementation of 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana' (Urban); a flagship programme of the Modi government.

Centre has proposed to set up a unit to monitor implementation of 'Prhan Mantri Awas Yojana' (Urban), officials said on Wednesday. According to a Request for Proposal (RFP) sent by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry on September 19, Programme Manment Unit (PMU) will provide focused support for PMAY (U) under 'Housing for All by 2022 Mission', a flagship programme of Modi government. " Ministry has invited proposals from experienced consulting firm/ncy for providing manpower for establishment of Programme Manment Unit for PMAY," an official claimed.

'Target of Constructing Around 1.12 Crore Houses'
RFP stated that firms participating should t have an aver annual financial turver of last three consecutive fiscal years which is less than Rs 9 crore. Ministry, which is mandated to execute PMAY (Urban), said ncies that are interested can submit ir proposals by October 17. A pre-bid meeting is scheduled to happen on October 4. Centre has proposed to set up PMU by April 2020 which will operate till 2022.

Under Prhan Mantri Awas Yojan (Urban), government has set a target of constructing around 1.12 crore houses in urban areas by 2022. Centre will also provide financial assistance to recipients under housing scheme. According to website of PMAY (U), 88.19 lakh houses have so far been sanctioned, 52.32 lakh houses are grounded for construction and 24.16 lakh houses have been handed over to beneficiaries. Last month, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri h said that target of 'Housing for All' would be achieved in 2020, two years before deline.

Prhan Mantri Awas Yojna - Gramin
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Union Budget speech h anunced that Centre would build 1.95 crore houses under PMAY-Gramin scheme. Sitharaman h claimed that Narendra Modi government keeps 'Gaon, Garib and Kisan at centre' of everything it does. second phase of PMAY-Gramin from 2019-20 to 2021-22 will also get amenities like LPG, electricity and toilets. Finance Minister claimed that by end of 2022 every single family in rural regions would have electricity connection and clean cooking facility.
