On Saturday, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released city- and centre-wise results for the NEET-UG medical entrance exam, following a period of intense scrutiny over alleged irregularities, including a suspected paper leak. This comprehensive data release, directed by the Supreme Court, comes as it reviews multiple petitions concerning these allegations. The results for over 32 lakh candidates from 4,750 centres were made available through a detailed drop-down menu rather than a cumulative format.
Performance Variations Across Centres
The newly released data highlights significant variations in candidate performance across different examination centres. Centres previously under scrutiny, such as Oasis School in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand; Hardayal Public School in Jhajjar, Haryana; and Jay Jalaram International School in Godhra, Gujarat, have shown comparatively poorer results.

High Scorers Concentrated in Specific Centres
Analysis of the data reveals that some centres have a notably high concentration of top scorers. At the School of Engineering, RK University in Rajkot, Gujarat, over 240 candidates scored above 600 marks, with 12 achieving above 700 out of 720 marks. Similarly, at Mangal Chand Didwaniya Vidya Mandir in Sikar, Rajasthan, four students scored above 700 marks, 45 scored above 650, and 115 scored above 600. Another centre in Sikar, Aravali Public School, reported that 90 students scored over 600 marks.
In contrast, candidates from centres where irregularities were reported, such as Oasis School in Hazaribagh, saw a much lower performance. Only five of 701 candidates at this centre scored above 600 marks, with none achieving 700 or more.

Continued Concerns and Legal Proceedings
Despite the detailed results, concerns remain. The scores at Hardayal Public School in Jhajjar, Haryana, were notably low, with no candidates scoring above 682, a significant drop from the 720 out of 720 reported earlier. Similarly, Godhra’s Jay Jalaram International School had none of its 1836 candidates scoring above 700, and only 0.4% scored 650 or more.
The NTA has maintained that the alleged leak was a localized issue and that identified beneficiaries were debarred. The Supreme Court, which has mandated the release of the detailed results, will resume hearings on July 22 to address pleas for cancellation, retests, and a court-monitored probe into the alleged malpractice.

Future Prospects for Affected Candidates
The revised results reveal that 30,204 candidates scored 650 or above, making up 1.3% of the 23.22 lakh candidates nationwide. Of these, over 79,500 candidates scored above 600, positioning them in the top 30,000 with potential access to government medical college seats. Notably, Sikar alone accounts for 2,037 of these seats.
As the legal proceedings continue, the fate of the NEET-UG exam remains under review, with stakeholders and candidates awaiting the final verdict.
