Chandrayaan 2: Vikram Lander separates from orbiter, landing on Sep 7

Achieving a major milestone, ISRO has anunced Chandrayaan-2's Vikram Lander's separation from orbiter on Monday at 1:15 PM. Sharing details of this update, ISRO has stated that Vikram Lander is currently located in an orbit of 119 km x 127 km. Meanwhile, Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter continues to orbit Moon in its existing orbit. ISRO also stated that systems of Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter and Lander are healthy and are being monitored from Mission Operations Complex at Bengaluru.

Chandrayaan-2's final maneuver
Earlier on Sunday, Chandrayaan-2 completed its final orbit maneuver successfully at 1821 hrs IST. ISRO anunced that duration of maneuver was 52 seconds and was performed using onboard propulsion system. orbit achieved is 119 km x 127 km, according to ISRO. Previously on August 30, ISRO h anunced that craft has successfully completed fourth orbit maneuver at 18:18 hours IST. Chandrayaan-2 sent its first moon photos on August 22.

ISRO has stated that Chandrayaan-2 is scheduled to land on Moon on September 7, 2019, at 1:40 AM (IST). lander named Vikram after founder of India’s program, Vikram Sarabhai will land on South pole of lunar surface. lander contains 6-wheeled rover 'Pragyan'which will n begin exploring lunar surface. ISRO chief has described landing as '15 minutes of terror'.

Chandrayaan-2's rocket lifted off at scheduled time of 2:43 PM on July 22. aver distance between Earth and Moon is 3, 84, 000 km. Vikram lander will land on Moon on 48th day of mission on September 7. This moon-lander and rover mission proves that India is taking le in exploration as its mission aims to investigate unexplored south pole of moon. With Chandrayaan-2 India aims at soft landing on Moon. If successful, it will be fourth country after US, Russia, and China to do so.
