Sindhudurg: An FIR has been registered against the structural consultant and contractor of the Shivaji Maharaj statue after it collapsed on Monday.

A 35-feet tall statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg collapsed at Rajkot Fort in Malvan; it was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shivaji Maharaj Statue Collapse: FIR Registered Against Two

Following the statue collapse in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, the local police has registered an FIR against two people involved in the construction of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

"FIR has been registered by local police in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue incident against contractor Jaydeep Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 109, 110, 125, 318, and 3(5)," Sindhudurg Police said. 

Indian Navy Deputes Team to Look into Reason of Collapse

The Indian Navy on Monday ordered an investigation into the collapse of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg that was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Navy Day last year.

"The Indian Navy notes with deep concern the damage caused this morning to the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that was unveiled on Navy Day on December 4, 2023, as a dedication to the citizens of Sindhudurg," the Navy said.

"Along with the state government and concerned specialists, the Navy has deputed a team to immediately investigate the cause of this unfortunate accident and initiate steps to repair, restore and reinstate the statue at the earliest," it added.

35-Feet Tall Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Collapses

A statue of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a fort in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district, collapsed on Monday, an official said.

Experts will ascertain the exact cause of the collapse, but the district has witnessed heavy rains and gusty winds in the last two to three days, the official said.
