Chhattisgarh: 428 new COVID-19 cases, 4 deaths, 189 recoveries

With 428 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths, Chhattisgarh's case count rose to 14,987 and death toll to 134 on Saturday, a health official said.

With 428 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths, Chhattisgarh's case count rose to 14,987 and death toll to 134 on Saturday, a health official said.

Three patients died on Friday while the information about a death that took place at a private hospital here on August 12 was received on Saturday, he said.

The day also saw discharge of 189 patients following recovery from the infection.

The state has 4,807 active cases now as 10,046 people have been discharged and 134 died.

Of the fresh cases reported on Saturday, 217 were from Raipur district, which is worst-hit by the pandemic in the state; followed by 49 from Durg, 25 from Bilaspur, 19 from Raigarh, 16 from Rajnandgaon, 14 each from Surguja and Kondagaon districts, 13 from Mahasamund, nine from Sukma, seven each from Kabirdham and Balodabazar districts, six from Koriya and five from Narayanpur, he said.

Four cases each were reported from Gariaband, Surajpur and Kanker districts, three from Bemetara district, two each from Balod, Dhamtari and Janjgir-Champa districts while one case each came from Balrampur and Jashpur districts.

Besides, four persons from other states who had arrived in Chhattisgarh tested positive for the viral infection.

"A 69-year-old man from Raipur, who was suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiac and kidney-related diseses (besides COVID-19) was admitted to Medical College Hospital here on August 7. He died on Friday night," the official said.

Another man, 65, from Durg district, who was suffering from diabetes, multi-organ dysfunction and other complications, who was admitted here at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), died on Friday night.

Chhattisgarh, where the infection has spread in all the 28 districts, has recorded over 10,000 cases and 114 deaths in the last one month.

With a total 5,190 cases so far, Raipur district tops the state tally. The district has witnessed 71 deaths.

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Total cases 14,987, new cases 428, deaths 134, discharged 10,046, active cases 4,807, people tested so far 4,14,328.
