In order to deal with Maoists-related issues, Chhattisgarh Police have come up with the idea of adopting the 'Trust-Development-Security' model of policing in Potali village in the Aranpur region. Ahead of the launching of the security model, a security camp was also established in the area.
However, since Potali is reportedly a strategically very important location for Maoists for their safe corridor, Maoists in the region are provoking the villagers to oppose the camp. Due to Maoist pressure, on Tuesday, November 12, around 500 villagers assembled near Potali camp and demonstrated against opening of camp in their village.

Villagers' positive reaction
However, amidst the hopeless situation in the area, on Wednesday, there was a ‘remarkable change’ in the approach of the villagers. A lot of people, especially women and children turned up to the security camp and had a positive interaction with the troops, bring forth some hope to the situation and showing a willingness to extend their support to the police’s plan.

The police plans on taking the plan ahead step by step. The first and foremost priority of the security forces in Potali would be to win over the confidence of the local population through credible and transparent policing so as to make them believe that what the police is doing is for their own benefit. Additionally, all the efforts are expected to be done to speed up the road connectivity and other development works by providing adequate security cover.

Furthermore, Maoist cadres, those who want to shun violence and join the mainstream, would be rehabilitated appropriately. Dantewada Police is committed to bringing in positive development in the life of Potali and nearby villagers by winning over their confidence.

Some parts of Chhatisgarh are notorious for Maoist activities, which as claimed by many reports state that there is an unspoken battle between the Maoists and civilians. An example of the same would be a recent incident where a Maoists, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. The skirmish took place at around 3 pm in the forest of Gachanpalli village under Bhejji police station area when a joint team of security forces was on a counter-insurgency operation.
