Chhattisgarh reports 426 new COVID-19 cases, seven deaths

With 426 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths, Chhattisgarh's total count rose to 15,471 and toll to 141 on Sunday, a health official said.

With 426 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths, Chhattisgarh's total count rose to 15,471 and toll to 141 on Sunday, a health official said.

Of the seven fatalities, five patients died on Sunday and another on Saturday, while the information about one death that took place on August 11 was received during the day, he said.

The day also saw the discharge of 189 patients following recovery.

The state has 5,095 active cases now as 10,235 people have been discharged and 141 died so far.

Of the fresh cases reported on Sunday, 230 were from Raipur district, which is worst-hit by the pandemic in the state, followed by 57 from Durg, 42 from Bilaspur, 34 from Raigarh, 16 from Surguja, 11 from Jashpur, nine from Rajnandgaon, five from Dantewada and three each from Balod, Mahasamund and Balodabazar districts, he said.

Two cases each were reported from Koriya, Narayanpur and Bijapur districts, while one case each came from Bemetara, Kabirdham, Gariaband, Korba, Surajpur and Kanker districts, he said.

Besides, a person from another state who had arrived in Chhattisgarh tested positive for the viral infection, he said.

"A 56-year-old man from Raipur, who was suffering from fever, cold, cough and COVID-19 and admitted here at a private hospital since August 10, died on Sunday," he said.

Another man, 65, from the capital, who was admitted here at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on August 5 with complications in breathing, later tested COVID- 19 positive, the official said adding that he died in the morning.

Besides, two patients each from Raipur and Dantewada districts died, while another from Janjgir-Champa district succumbed to the infection, he added.

Chhattisgarh, where the infection has spread in all 28 districts, has recorded over 10,700 cases and 120 deaths in the last one month alone, he said.

With a total 5,420 cases so far, Raipur district tops the state tally. The district has witnessed 75 deaths so far.

Chhattisgarh's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 15,471, new cases 426, deaths 141, discharged 10,235, active cases 5,095, people tested so far 4,19,658.
