Chidambaram in Tihar: Here's what his schedule in jail will look like

Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram faced massive setback on Thursday after he was sent to 14-day judicial custody at the Tihar Jail by Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. The former Finance Minister will be lodged in Jail number no. 7 at the Tihar. The Delhi Court also allowed the application of the amenities demanded by P Chidambaram at the Tihar Jail, including a separate jail cell and Z security among other things. Republic TV has learnt about the procedure that will be followed after the former Home Minister will arrive at the Tihar Jail to serve the judicial custody.

- The jail officials will check the court order and all applications that have been accepted by the judge, which includes that application for a separate cell and Western toilet facilities. Special protection and medicines have also been allowed by the court.
- Arrivng at Tihar jail, he will undergo an identification test
- Chidambaram will be then taken for medical check-up
As per sources, the Congress leader will be treated like any other under-trial at the Tihar, with no special privileges except those allowed by the court. As per the jail norms, the inmates are locked up at 9 in the night and in the morning, they have to wake up between 6-7 am

- Breakfast is served: Dalia/ bread tea and biscuits (Food in Tihar is prepared as per calorie requirement)
- After breakfast, inmates are allowed to take a walk or exercise
- Lunch is served between noon to 1 pm: Daal Roti Sabzi
- Dinner is served between 7 pm - 8 pm
Chidambaram sent to judicial custody
The veteran Congress leader will spend 14 days in judicial custody till September 19 at the Tihar Jail in connection with the INX Media corruption case. Meanwhile, the court has issued a notice to the ED on Chidambaram's application seeking to surrender in the money laundering case lodged by the agency. Earlier on Thursday, the Supreme Court had dismissed Chidambaram's plea against the August 20 order of the Delhi High Court denying him pre-arrest bail filed by ED in the INX Media case. He was produced before the court on Thursday after his 15-day CBI custody, ordered by the special court in five spells, following his arrest on August 21, ended. Furthermore, another special court granted P Chidambaram and his son Karti anticipatory bail in the Aircel Maxis cases.

Cases against the Chidambarams
The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram's tenure as the finance minister. Thereafter, the Enforcement Directorate lodged a money laundering case in this regard in 2017. Chidambaram, who served as the Home Minister as also Finance Minister during the former UPA rule from 2004 to 2014, was arrested by the CBI on August 21 from his Jor Bagh residence.
