Chidambaram taken to AIIMS hospital after he complains of stomach ache

Former finance minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, who is currently in the custody of Enforcement Directorate in the INX Media case, was taken to AIIMS on Monday after he complained of stomach ache and other related issues.
Chidambaram taken to AIIMS
Sources said Chidambaram was taken to the RML Hospital in the morning but has now been shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi. Chidambaram complained of illness and pain in the stomach, the sources added. Sources at AIIMS said, the former union minister was brought to the hospital around 5.40 PM and is being examined by a team of doctors in the old private ward. While those close to Chidambaram said "his condition is not good", ED sources claimed, "there was nothing serious".

Meanwhile, the Former Union Minister is currently is in judicial custody of the ED at Tihar jail till October 30 in connection with the INX Media case. He has been granted bail in the CBI's case against him in the same case. His counsel Congress leader Kapil Sibal had earlier briefed the court of Chidambaram's medical condition that he has been suffering from acute stomach ache and sought a 2-day interim bail for treatment in Hyderabad.

CBI chargesheets Chidambarams
On October 18, the CBI had filed a charge sheet in the INX Media scam in a Special court in Delhi, naming the Chidambarams. Sources report that the charge sheet has named Peter Mukerjea, Karti Chidambaram, P. Chidambaram, INX Media, ASCL among the fourteen named entities. Sources further report that P. Chidambaram has been charge-sheeted with Criminal conspiracy. According to sources, P. Chidambaram and other accused in INX Media Case charged with Sections 120B, 420, 468, 471 of the Indian Penal Code read with Sections 9, 13(2) and 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act.

INX Media case and Chidambaram
The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram's tenure as the Finance Minister. Thereafter, the Enforcement Directorate had lodged a money laundering case in this regard in 2017. Chidambaram was first arrested by the CBI in connection with the INX Media case on August 22 from his New Delhi residence. He is currently been held in judicial custody in Tihar Jail after a Delhi Court dismissed his plea seeking to surrender to the ED in the money laundering case of INX Media. Both agencies are still probing Chidambaram in the case.
