Mumbai: The Mumbai police have arrested the killer, who allegedly stabbed a 20-year-old woman identified as Yashashree Shinde in Navi Mumbai and dumped her body in the bushes near Uran Railway Station on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Dawood Shaikh, who stabbed the victim multiple times to death after reportedly she rejected his proposal. During the investigation, chilling details of the murder surfaced about how accused Dawood Shaikh planned the killing and how he dodged the police for nearly a week.

According to the police probe, the father of Yashashree Shinde, a resident of Karnataka's Gulbarga district, had filed a complaint against Dawood in 2019 under the POCSO Act, based on which he was arrested and spent about a month and a half in jail. However, Dawood wanted to marry Yashashree and relocate to Karnataka, but she refused his advances, leading to a persistent pressure campaign from Dawood.

Dawood Blackmailed The Victim With Her Private Photographs

He kept continuing communication with her with the help of his friend Mohsin’s number, even though Yashashree blocked his numbers. Dawood’s obsession with Yashashree reached a point where he started threatening her and blackmailing her to meet him with her private photographs.

Before the brutal killing, Dawood arrived in Navi Mumbai on July 23 from Karnataka, and forced Yashashree to meet him. However, when she refused, Dawood in a desperate move on July 25, posted one of the private photos on Facebook and coerced Yashashree to meet him to ensure the photo was deleted.

Heated Argument Led To Killing

On the day of the incident, after repeated pressure from Dawood, Yashashree took a half-day leave from her job in Belapur and went to meet him near Jui Nagar railway station. During the meeting, a heated argument ensued between the two, following which Dawood stabbed her multiple times causing her fatal injuries. Yashashree's body was found on Saturday, dumped in the bushes near a railway station in Navi Mumbai's Uran area with multiple stab wounds.

According to police sources, Dawood had brought two knives from Bangalore and used one of them to kill Yashashree on July 25. After stabbing her, Dawood, in desperation to flee, made his way from Uran to Panvel by train. He withdrew money from an ATM and then took a bus to Karnataka.

‘Dawood’ Tattoo Found On Yashashree’s Body

During the physical examination of the body of Yashashree, two tattoos bearing Dawood's name were found. The police are probing whether Yashashree willingly got his name tattooed on her body or was she forced to do so by Dawood.

Earlier, on July 20, five days before the murder, a Panvel court had issued a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against Dawood for his failure to appear in court regarding the 2019 POCSO Act case registered by Yashashree’s father.

How Police Grabbed Him

To dodge the police, Dawood turned off his mobile and left it with his grandmother before fleeing from the home in Karnataka. Further, to leave no travel trails against him, Dawood began a journey on foot, traversing the mountains near his village to evade capture and detection. He used to scale a mountain every day to evade his arrest.

The Navi Mumbai police, piecing together Dawood's movements, launched a massive manhunt. Using human intelligence, they tracked him down to a mountain near Shahpur in Karnataka. On the morning of July 30, after five days of relentless pursuit, the police arrested Dawood from the mountains at around 5 AM.
