CM Dhami promises to rebuild Baba Baukhnag temple after safe rescue of workers

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union minister V K Singh went straight to a temple of local deity Baba Baukhnag to express their gratitude for his blessings.

As last ambulance carrying one of 41 labourers rescued from an under-construction ro tunnel left site in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district for a community health centre on Tuesday evening, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union minister V K Singh went straight to a temple of local deity Baba Baukhnag to express ir gratitude for his blessings.

At a press conference held soon after, Dhami said small temple of Baba Baukhnag, located near mouth of Silkyara tunnel, will be rebuilt.

A partial collapse of Silkyara tunnel on November 12 h left 41 construction workers trapped inside. accident was attributed by residents of area to local deity's anger as temple dedicated to him was demolished just a couple of days ahe of Diwali.

construction agency h initially argued that temple was demolished for construction of ro tunnel, which is a part of Centre's ambitious Char Dham project in Uttarakhand.

However, mistake was realised soon and a small temple of deity revered by locals as ir protector was erected at a corner of tunnel to seek his forgiveness.

Regular puja of deity was held to bless rescuers for accomplishing mission that frequently ran into hurdles.

rescue workers pulled out all 41 labourers trapped in tunnel on Tuesday evening, in a multi-agency operation that hovered between hope and despair for almost 17 days.
