Rajkot: The Congress workers have called for a ‘bandh’ in Rajkot to demand justice for the victims who tragically lost their lives in the TRP Gaming Zone fire incident on May 25.

As many as 28 persons, including four children, were killed in the massive fire that swept through the gaming zone located in the Nana-Mava locality of Rajkot city.

Gujarat Congress president Shaktisinh Gohil called for a ‘bandh,' urging the owners of the commercial establishments in Rajkot City to keep their premises closed for half a day in memory of the victims who were killed in the fire incident.

“I urge all residents of Rajkot city to observe a half-day ‘bandh’ on June 25 (Tuesday) to remember those who lost their lives in the fire tragedy on May 25. We are giving this bandh call so that the government ensures justice. We have also urged managements of schools and colleges to join the bandh,” said Gohil.

He maintained the stand that Congress demanded justice for the victims and their families and asserted that the strike call was not politically motivated.

“This call is not a political stunt. We are doing this to get justice for those who lost their lives. And I am confident people will come forward voluntarily and keep their establishments shut. Our workers will visit markets tomorrow to urge shopkeepers to observe a bandh," he added.

Rahul Gandhi Interacts With Victims

Raebareli MP and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi interacted with the families of those who were killed in the TRP Game Zone fire incident through video conferencing last week and offered them his condolences. He assured the families that the Congress party would support them through thick and thin in the interaction that lasted for almost an hour.

The initial probe into the incident revealed that the game zone was operational without any no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Rajkot Municipal Corporation's fire department. The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe the case, has so far arrested five people and six government officials.
