Congress Dissolves Himachal State Unit, Says Decision Aims At Restructuring Party

Shimla: In a surprising decision, Congress, on Wednesday, dissolved all units in Himachal Presh releasing members from ir roles including state and block presidents. According to Congress party leers, decision is aimed at restructuring and revitalizing party’s state organization.

In a statement on Wednesday, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said, "Hourable Congress President has approved proposal to dissolve entire state unit of PCC, District Presidents and Block Congress Committees of Himachal Presh Congress Committee, with immediate effect."

president of outgoing state Congress unit is Pratibha Singh, who is widow of former chief minister Virbhra Singh. She was appointed as Himachal Presh Congress president in April 2022. Singh has alrey become a member of Congress Working Committee (CWC), which is party's highest decision-making body.

With this move, Congress has dissolved its unit of one of only three states where it has a Chief Minister from its party. move is being seen as part of grand old party's plan to restructure Congress's Himachal unit. tably, re has been change in PCC ever since Congress won and formed its government in hill state, news ncy PTI reported.

Factionalism has been an issue within Himachal Congress and was recently seen during Rajya Sabha election in February 2024, when Congress's minee Abhishek Singhvi lost to BJP's Harsh Mahajan after several Congress MLAs defected and cross-voted, rebelling against ruling party and highlighting internal discord that existed within unit.

Several names are doing rounds for new party chief in hill state. Some of prominent ones include Anirudh Singh and Harshvardhan Chauhan, PTI reported.
