'Congress sniper threat charge was green light flashed on Rahul Gandhi by AICC photographer's phone': MHA Sources

Following  the Congress party writing to the Ministry of Home Affairs citing a 'sniper threat' to party president Rahul Gandhi after a green laser light was seen being pointed at him while he was addressing media on Wednesday, ministry sources have told Republic TV on Thursday that the green light that flashed on his face was emitted from the phone of a photographer belonging to the AICC (All India Congress Committee).

Following the complaint by the Congress party leaders including Randeep Surjewala and Ahmed Patel - the letter of which has been accessed by Republic TV,  the Special Protection Group (SPG) conducted an inquiry during which it found that the green light was coming from the photographer's phone while he was recording Rahul Gandhi's interaction with media following filing his nomination in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi. 

The photographer has been identified as Danish and his phone has been confiscated by the Special Protection Group.

Senior Congress party leaders wrote to the Home Ministry on April 10 stating that a 'sniper laser' was seen being pointed at Rahul Gandhi seven times during his media interaction. Claiming that Rahul Gandhi's life is at risk by a 'possible assassin', the party demanded the ministry to take note of the security threat on their party president's life. They also added that is an alarming lapse on part of the UP administration which is responsible for his peripheral security while he was there to file his nomination.

"We request to initiate immediate action in the matter to investigate and neutralize the threat if any," the letter reads.

Congress attached the video of the incident with the letter to the ministry. The green laser light can also be seen pointed at Rahul Gandhi multiple times in a video tweeted by the party:
