"We were informed by school authorities that it was t possible to give mission to our child as we wrote 'nil' in religion column. y claimed that if nil is mentioned, mission process will t get registered in school manment software of education department," Naseem said. Sampoorna is a school manment system project implemented by Kerala education department to automate system and process of over 15,000 schools in state.

parents later approached ministry and Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) to get furr clarification. " state government officials denied that re were any issues with software and confirmed to us that mission process was going on. When we approached school authorities again, y asked us to give in writing that we, parents will take responsibility of any issues that may occur in future," Naseem said. parents n decided t to enrol ir son at school due to manner in which issue was handled by institution.

Reacting swiftly, state government sought a report from DPI and deputy director of education department on matter. "We have asked DPI and deputy director of education department to look into matter and file a report as soon as possible," Education minister C Raveendranath told PTI. parents said after news spre, a school official called m offering mission. "But we decided t to enrol him re due to approach of school authorities," he said. Naseem runs a catering business after returning from Gulf.

school manment in a release claimed that y sought a letter in writing from parents to avoid trouble in future. "When school authorities asked why religion column was left blank, parents said y were t interested in filling that part. parents have that right. But most benefits given by government to school children are based on religion. We just wanted to ensure that parents take responsibility in case student missed out any such benefits in future," manment said. School authorities maintained y never denied mission to any student.

Ravindranath recently claimed in state Assembly that over one lakh children in Kerala h left columns relating to caste and religion blank in school mission records during 2017-18 acemic year. In a written reply, he said as many as 1,24,147 children h t filled se columns while enrolling in different classes in government and government-aided schools during period.
