Jadavpur University’s Instrumentation department has unveiled an ingenious electronic mask that boasts ability to annihilate any virus in close proximity of person wearing it. According to PTI reports, students have prepared a design for electronic mask but await approval of concerned governmental authorities before carrying on with production.

Electronic mask to help fight virus 

An official told PTI that  electromagnetic field created by mask will annihilate any virus, including SARS-2, which comes in striking distance of person wearing it. official furr added that mask will be self-chargeable and much more effective than common three-layer surgical mask.

" design has been made ready. But we need to take it forward. We need to build a prototype after getting consent from an organisation like ICMR. We will n formally think about taking concept to manufacturers of medical products," said Pro-Vice-Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharya.

He also added that price and or particulars of electronic mask can only be determined after prototype is created and thoroughly tested.

Masks becoming mandatory

Amid  COVID-19 pandemic, many nations have advised ir citizens to wear masks and face covering in order to protect mselves and ors from virus. latest country to encour its citizens to wear masks has been Finland. After months of repeatedly citing 'insufficient evidence' on effectiveness of facemasks, Finnish Health authorities have w recommended people to wear face masks and coverings in public.

coronavirus pandemic which saw its first outbreak in a wet market in Wuhan, China last year has w spread all across world. virus, named COVID-19 by World Health Organisation, has infected over 20 million people worldwide with global death toll reaching 772,798.

As per John Hopkins coronavirus resource centre, United States has reported a total of at least 5,223,131 positive virus cases and has a death toll of 169,934. US currently has highest number of reported cases in world, making it epicentre of deadly virus.
