WATCH: Migrant exodus from Delhi to UP stopped at Ghazipur; Police asks them to return

Several migrant labourers were attempting to return to their hometowns, but they were stopped by the Delhi Police in a bid to stop mass movement.

As nationwide lockdown amid COVID-19 crisis intensifies, one of defining features has been swarms of migrant people attempting to he back to ir hometowns, sometimes having to walk hundreds of kilometers.

In Ghazipur, near Delhi-UP border, several migrant labourers were attempting to reach back to ir hometowns, but y were stopped by Delhi Police in a bid to stop mass movement and prevent spre of coronavirus.

In a video tweeted by ANI, many people can be seen heing towards ir home in different districts of Uttar Presh. However, Delhi Police personnel stopped m and directed m back. migrants were asked to he back to different places in Delhi where y reside.

Maharashtra CM appeals to migrants to stay put

Similarly in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday urged migrant workers to stay put wherever y are amid coronavirus crisis. Thackeray's appeal came after people tried to move to ar place in a milk tanker. In dition, he assured that  state governments were taking care of migrants stuck in ir respective states.

Steps have been taken by Centre and states to ensure that body goes hungry, with many places opening up Coronavirus kitchens where anyone can eat. However, a majority of migrants are likely to face a big difficulty in finding places to stay.
