CPI-M: PM Modi rattled by protests against CAA, will continue till government withdraws it

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of speaking "a bundle of untruths" during his rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday. CPI-M said PM was "rattled" by protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and declaration of several Chief Ministers that y will t implement National Register of Citizens (NRC). In a statement, party politburo said protests against CAA and NRC will continue till government stops ongoing process.

party said Home Minister Amit Shah h stated during a debate on Citizenship Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha that government will bring NRC across country and t a single infiltrator will be spared. It said that NRC process was, to begin with, compilation of National Population Register from April 1 to September 30, 2020. " NPR is first st of NRC. gazette tification for this was issued on July 3, 2019," said CPI-M.
party also said that PM Modi in his speech on Sunday did t mention " growing miseries" of people in ir day-to-day life. " ecomy is in a virtual recession, unemployment is highest in half a century. Distress suicides by farmers are growing and inflation is eating into people's lives," party said and accused government of sharpening communal polarization. " protests against CAA, NRC, NPR will continue until official tification is issued to stop ongoing process," said CPI-M.

CAA protests across nation
At least 18 people have died in Uttar Presh due to violence during protests, around a thousand have been arrested and many ors booked. In wake of violent protests, on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to calm situation by assuring that CAA will t affect a single India citizen irrespective of religion. Despite PM Modi's mess, however, protests continue across country in full swing. On Monday, three mega rallies, two anti-CAA rallies, and one demonstration in favour of Act were held. Rahul Gandhi led one anti-CAA protest at Delhi's Rajghat while DMK organised ar from CMDA office to Rajarathinam Stium. Meanwhile, BJP's JP Nda held a counter-rally supporting CAA in Kolkata.
