CPI's Yechury condemns police action in Jamia University, calls it 'unacceptable'

Leers of opposition parties came toger on Monday to dress a press conference at Constitution Club in Delhi following clashes between students and police in Jamia Millia Islamia University on Sunday. General Secretary of CPI Sitaram Yechury condemned police action against students during which many students were injured as police barged into Jamia campus and resorted to lathi-charge and firing teargas shells.
Sitaram Yechury said, "We are here primarily to first to outrightly condemn what happened in Jamia Millia University yesterday and this is something that is unacceptable in a democracy. police can enter any university campus without permission of authorities. Here everybody, including Vice-Chancellor, has clearly stated that y did t ask for police entry. So police entered and we saw police brutality with which y dealt with students and manner in which y switched off electricity and in darkness, y were beating students in darkness. I think this is something unacceptable in a democracy and we outrightly condemn this."

'Home Minister is directly in-charge, where is he?'
CPI leer stated that issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Act is "t a Hindu-Muslim issue". He said, " CAB is an issue which is directly an affront to Indian constitution that you cant link citizenship with religion. We would like to kw on whose orders Delhi police entered university with permission of university authorities. Whoever gave orders should be punished and brought to book. Home Minister is directly in-charge, where is he? We have t been able to see him for past two days. All three central universities in national capital because of intervention of government and forces. y are destroying our higher education. democratic rights of citizens cant be suppressed under jackboots of government. We will take this movement all over India and this is anuncement we want to make here today."

Jamia Millia University protests
Protestors torched four public buses and two police vehicles in New Friends’ Colony near university during a demonstration against act, leaving nearly 60 people including students, cops and fire-fighters injured. A Jamia students’ body claimed y h thing to do with arson and “certain elements” h joined protest and “disrupted” it. y also accused police of high-handedness. university h turned into a battlefield on Sunday as police entered campus following protest against Citizenship Amendment Act, which led to violence and arson. Several states in rast and West Bengal have been rocked by violent protests over Act, which seeks to provide citizenship to n-muslim religious mirities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Banglesh.
