Crackdown on Rohingyas: J&K Police to probe 'terror links'

Jammu:  Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said that it will be probing terror links of Rohingyas detained during massive crackdown on illegal settlers in Jammu region. J&K Police has detained more than 40 Rohingyas and their associates in six districts of Jammu region.

Inspector General of Jammu Zone Anand Jain said that they will also be probing terror links of the Rohingyas who have been detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police in day long raids across Jammu Zone. "It is matter of investigation whether they have terror links. We are taking a comprehensive approach; and if  needed we will loop in other agencies," he added.

He further added that Police has been getting regular inputs regarding illegal settlements being helped by people to get Aadhar, ration and sim cards. "07 FIRs registered in Jammu; 30 locations have been raided. 30-35 people detained. FIRs lodged in Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Ramban and Doda districts as well and legal action will be initiated," he added.

IG Jammu said that several items, including ration cards, SIM cards, and rent agreements, have been recovered, resulting in the registration of over 10 FIRs and the detention of more than 40 individuals for questioning in Jammu Zone. "The investigation is focused on determining the identities of those providing assistance. FIRs have been filed under the Foreigners Act and Forgery charges. Additionally, an official has been apprehended in Poonch, prompting further inquiry. Substantial evidence, such as bank passbooks, mobile phones, revenue records, and water bills, has been seized as part of the investigation".
