Engineer assaulted at Jitendra Awhad's house: 5 men arrested, sent to 4-day police custody

Thane Police arrested 5 men who brutally thrashed an engineer at Maharashtra Minister Jitendra Awhad's home. They were sent to 4-day police custody.

In a big development on Thursday, Thane Police arrested 5 men who brutally thrashed an engineer on night of April 5. y are believed to be security personnel deployed at Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awh's bungalow. After being produced in a local court, y were sent to 4-day police custody. complaint was registered against at Vartak Nagar police station.

Engineer alleges assault at Minister's residence

Awh h publicly opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to light a lamp at 9 pm on April 5. He lamented that problems such as lack of personal protective equipment for healthcare workers and fewer tests h t been dressed. Subsequently, a civil engineer in Thane posted a reportedly offensive social media post ridiculing Awh.

As per complainant's account in FIR registered at Vartak Nagar Police station, two constables reached his house and took him to Maharashtra Housing Minister's bungalow. reafter, engineer was allegedly beaten bly by police constables and goons with lathis, belts and bamboo sticks. While Awh has refrained from directly commenting on veracity of incident, he wrote on Twitter stressing that he did t support lawlessness. Speaking to Republic TV on Wednesday, aforesaid engineer revealed that t only was his mobile phone was confiscated, but also Awh was present at bungalow when thrashing took place.

Taking te of incident, Maharashtra Leer of Opposition Devendra Fnavis urged Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to immediately sack Jitendra Awh from Cabinet. He described this as an "extremely grave" matter. While ackwledging that an individual h a right to file a complaint against misuse of social media, he contended that semblance of law and order would exist in state if governing class took law into ir own hands. Maharashtra BJP president Chandrakant Patil also condemned alleged misuse of authority by Awh. Furrmore, a delegation of BJP leers including former Lok Sabha MP Kirit Somaiya was t allowed to visit complainant's residence.
