Bhandara Fire: Probe committee points out 'no fire NOC' obtained by district hospital

The probe committee investigating the Bhandara Fire tragedy pointed out that the hospital was functioning without any fire compliance since inception in 1981

reafter, PWD department h handed over building to Health Department without Occupation Certificate, which is an essential document required for beginning use of any constructed premise, probe committee investigation revealed.

Again in 2015, hospital did t obtain  fire C from Bhandara Nagar Parish, for constructing Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), a medical store, and a nutrition rehabilitation centre, probe committee observed.

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday sent a tice to Maharashtra Government over horrific Bhandara Hospital fire incident that killed ten newborn babies. In its tice to  Director-General of Police and Chief Secretary,  NHRC sought a detailed report on incident within four weeks.

Tragic Bhandara Hospital Fire

In wee hours on January 9 when nurse on duty opened Intensive Care Unit door late at night and saw a large amount of smoke in room. He immediately informed hospital authorities, after which a fire brige was called.

After unfortunate incident took place on January 9, after which Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ordered an inquiry into tragic incident and directed District Collector and Superintendent of Police to investigate into case.

Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Yashomati Thakur on Monday visited hospital and directed officials to ensure proper care of mors and families who lost ir children in trdy. Thakur inspected hospital and held discussions with district collector and health officials.

It has been in public domain that neonatal zone of hospital did t have any fire safety measures in place. An RTI reply from 2018 h revealed that fire safety instruments were t installed on premises.
