DCW: Only 47 percent shelter homes operating in Delhi have licenses

Delhi government and Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) h partnered with Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) to conduct a social audit of all shelter homes in Delhi. TISS Koshish is same organization that h exposed horrific Muzzafarpur shelter home trdy in Bihar where cases of rapes and murder of girls were reported.
trdy raised several concerns regarding functioning of shelter homes across country. Kejriwal and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia n requested DCW to eng an external and independent ncy like TISS Koshish to conduct this audit.

Team visits 83 shelter homes
team from TISS led by Md. Tarique visited 83 shelter homes being run in national capital both by government as well as by NGOs, panel said. report has pointed out several shortcomings.

For instance, only 47 percent of homes are running with proper licenses and 25 percent have applied for renewal of same and are yet to get it. Furr, it was found that staff appointment was low in shelter homes and various positions were vacant, panel said.
