Delhi High Court has asked All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to reconsider its decision to levy charges on those who stay at its night shelter facility near medical facility in national capital. A division bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rajnish Bhatnagar also asked AIIMS to reconsider its decision on requirement for production of documents to avail of night shelter facility, and limit with regard to number of days for which needy and deserving patients, and ir attendants, could continue to stay at shelter.

plea was filed by Karan Seth, seeking to address grievance of hundreds of outstation patients and ir attendants, who, it said, were earlier being provided treatment at AIIMS, Delhi for several ailments.

"We are of view that since, historically, night shelter has been run by DUSIB differently from Vishram Sadans run by AIIMS, AIIMS could justifiably treat said facility somewhat differently than ir existing Vishram Sadans," court observed asking AIIMS to file a report on matter and listed it for furr hearing on July 7.

bench emphasised that it endorsed AIIMS taking over night shelter, earlier run by DUSIB, to improve functionality of night shelter, after court found that night shelter was being run in an unacceptable manner by ncy appointed by DUSIB. high court ted that when night shelter was run by DUSIB, re was a complete lack of hygiene, lack of drinking water facilities and water supply for toilets, lack of cooking facilities, and lack of check on persons who were visiting night shelter.

Meanwhile, With 2,909 fresh COVID-19 cases reported on June 22, Monday, COVID-19 tally in Delhi crossed 62,000-mark. As per Delhi health department, in last 24 hours, 58 people lost ir lives to deadly contagious disease. death toll from COVID-19 in national capital stands at 2,175. AAP government issued Standard Operating Procedures for manment of patients who have tested positive for deadly disease.
