Delhi HC cancels month-long summer break, Court to work in June
The Delhi High Court has decided to suspend its month-long summer break from Court hearings and decided to function as usual during the month of June 2020

Delhi High Court on Thursday became second High Court in country to suspend month-long summer break from Court hearings and decided to function as usual during month of June 2020.
decision was taken unanimously by all judges of High Court stating that " Court has to be mindful and cognizant of difficulties faced by litigants on account of lockdown and consequently suspended functioning of Delhi High Court and subordinate courts".

High Court and all District Courts in Delhi have only been taking up matters of extremely urgent nature during nation-wide lockdown imposed in country. relevant portion of High Court resolution res. Since during period of suspension of work, hearing is limited to matters of extremely urgent nature or urgent nature, re is negligible fresh filing of cases, lesser disposal and corresponding escalation in arrears, resulting in extreme hardship to litigants.

"In view of severe hardship faced by litigants due to prevailing pandemic of COVID-19 that has impaired functioning of courts, it has been unanimously resolved by Full Court that to make up for loss of court working hours and to ensure restoration of rmalcy in functioning of courts at earliest.
Modifying resolution of Full Court dated 16.09.2019, declaring period of Summer vacations for Delhi HC and Courts subordinate reto in month of June 2020, this Courts shall continue functioning during entire month of June i.e. from 01.06.2020 to 30.06.2020.

It is hoped and expected that members of Bar shall extend ir full cooperation in making functioning of courts meaningful and purposeful during month of June 2020."

Courts hearing urgent matters amid lockdown
Courts during lockdown period have restricted ir functioning to only hearing cases directly related to global pandemic or affecting life and liberty of any citizen. Several PILs dealing with a variety of issues concerning COVID outbreak as well as bail pleas of undertrial accused have been top-most priority of Courts. Pendency of cases has been a pressing issue in all courts across country for deces and lockdown of country due to pandemic has, in effect furr increased backlog of cases Court is unable to take up due to its restricted functioning.
Court has come forth and me a plea to members of Bar to extend ir full cooperation in making functioning of Court in June productive. Telangana High Court h also recently taken a decision to function during summer break.
