Expedite applications for issuing ration cards: Delhi HC to AAP govt
The Delhi High Court has directed the AAP government to expedite applications for issuing ration cards, saying they cannot be kept pending for a long time as the cards are required to obtain subsidised food grains.

Justice Navin Chawla issued direction to Delhi government on separate pleas by two women seeking issuance of ration cards to m for obtaining subsidised food grains.

court was informed by ir counsel, Tushar Sannu Dahiya, that ir applications for ration cards have been pending for more than two years.
Taking te of submission, court said," applications cant be kept pending for such a long period. applications of petitioners have been pending for more than two years. For above reasons, delay in processing of applications by respondents (Delhi government departments) cant be countenanced."

" respondents are again directed to expedite process of consideration of such applications t only of petitioners but or applicants as well," it ded and directed Delhi government to file a status report before December 23, next date of hearing.
During hearing, Delhi government ditional standing counsel Anuj Aggarwal told court that around four hundred applications have been processed in area, where petitioners live, since last date of hearing on October 19.

Sannu h earlier told court that according to reply received to an application under Right to Information Act, 2005 and data available on National Food Security portal, limit under National Food Security Act, 2013 approved for Delhi is 72,77,995, out of which only 72,22,236 applicants have been approved. He h told court that re are a large number of applications filed by persons like petitioners which are still pending.
