Interlocutors commence talks with Shaheen Bagh protesters, request a private dialogue

On Wednesday, Supreme Court-appointed interlocuters senior vocates Sanjay Hegde and Shana Ramachandran commenced talks with Shaheen Bagh protesters. Hegde stated that y h come to talk on directions of protesters. reafter, Ramachandran explained SC order to protesters.
She quoted SC 's observation that everyone h right to protest. She clarified that this right was valid even as apex court was hearing legal challenge to Citizenship Amendment Act. At same time, she opined that citizens h a right to reach ir workplace, hospital, and school on time.

Ramachandran stressed that or people should t be inconvenienced in wake of protests. reafter, interlocutors requested a private discussion with protesters in absence of media. However, some of protesters insisted that media should be allowed to stay.

SC seeks solution to Shaheen Bagh impasse
On Monday, SC bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kaul and KM Joseph heard multiple petitions demanding removal of protesters from Shaheen Bagh and clearance of Kalindi Kunj ro. While one petition has been filed by lawyer and activist Amit Sahni seeking removal of protesters under supervision of a retired judge of Supreme Court or Delhi High Court, BJP leer Nand Kishor Garg filed second petition. court questioned wher a public ro could be blocked in this manner.

At same time, apex court clarified that limited question before it was concerning place at which an indefinite protest of this nature could be held. bench named senior vocates Sanjay Hegde and Shana Ramachandran as interlocutors to mediate with Shaheen Bagh protesters and explore possibility of shifting protest to alternative venues such as Ramlila Maidan and Jantar Mantar. interlocutors have been directed to submit a report on outcome of talks by February 24, next date of hearing.
