In latest development to ivory possession case against Malayalam film actor Mohanlal, Kerala government on Friday submitted an application in a local court requesting to stop prosecution. In withdrawal application, government prayed to court to stop prosecution 'immediately for interest of justice'.
case against actor Mohanlal was registered by forest department in 2012 and state government submitted application in Kuruppampy Judicial Magistrate Court, which will hear matter on July 24.

'' legality of possession of two elephant tusks by Mohanlal was accepted by competent authority under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 by issuing him a certificate of ownership. possession and custody of elephant tusks thus become legal after Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW) issued him certificate," state government said.

application ded that furr conduct of criminal trial may go against good faith amongst parties as far as certificate of ownership issued to Mohanlal is concerned. "One cant go back from that ownership certificate and it was stopped from contricting, deny or declare to be false previous statement me by actor in court", it ded.
