In a major development, Maharashtra government on Friday, approved mass recruitment of 12,538 police officials. Informing about decision, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that this decision will empower youth in vills hit by unemployment due to Coronavirus (COVID-19). This decision comes in wake of Supreme Court staying Maratha reservation in govt jobs, education in state.

Maharashtra police mass recruitment approved
In comparison in 2019, a total of 5,297 posts for police constable were created, while in 2020, 6726 posts were created. state cabinet directed home department to take steps regarding recruitment process in consultation with law and judiciary department. Similarly, for newly-created Mira Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar police commissionerates, 505 of 975 posts are to be filled in first phase. "All 12,528 posts will be filled," said a CMO statement.

recruitment move also comes amid protests std by members of Maratha Kranti Morcha in Solapur's Shivaji Chowk area against state and Union governments following Supreme Court stay on implementation of a decision to provide quota for community in jobs and education.
