Mumbai Police urges 'peaceful & professional protest'; shifts demonstrators to Azad Maidan
Amid the ongoing protest in Mumbai over the JNU violence, Mumbai Police urged Mumbaikars to abstain from taking any steps that would cause inconvenience

Amid ongoing protest in Mumbai over JNU violence, Mumbai Police on Tuesday urged Mumbaikars to abstain from taking any steps that would cause inconvenience to citizens. Taking to microblogging site Mumbai police said that protestors were relocated in a peaceful and professional manner from Gateway of India to Azad Maidan in interest of general public.

Speaking to Republic TV DCP of Zone 1, Sangramsingh Nishandar said, "For past two days, police made several appeals to protestors. On Monday y marched a protest from Hutatma Chowk to Gateway of India, paralysing traffic of South Mumbai. y chanted slogans and blocked roads. We respect ir views but we have to maintain law and order in city".
"As protests posed difficulty to tourists and affected daily routine of residents in locality, police appealed protestors to move rally to Azad Maidan. Even after telling m about unlawful assembly, y still persisted. So we parked our vehicles and began to move protesters from Gateway to Azad Maidaan, where y will have water and sanitation facilities. Some did t move and had to be picked up."

Police take cognizance
Mumbai Police on Tuesday said serious actions will be taken over controversial poster shown on Monday's protest against JNU violence at Gateway of India. According to sources, Maharashtra government ordered Mumbai Police to relocate protestors from Gateway of India after "Free Kashmir" poster was displayed at protest.

Police furr stated that y will be filing a case against students under section 135, unlawful garing at a public place as prior permission was taken for protest. police are also in search for girl who held placard, as per sources.
Talking to media DCP of Zone 1, Sangramsingh Nishandar said, "We have taken serious cognizance of 'free Kashmir' poster seen in protest last night at Gateway of India. We are definitely investigating it."
