NEET-JEE exams: Kanpur Police bust betting racket on exams, 7 arrested as kingpin escapes
Kanpur police busted a betting and gambling racket which allegedly placed bets on whether the JEE and NEET exams will be conducted as scheduled or postponed.

Amid row over conducting JEE and NEET exams, Kanpur police busted a betting and gambling racket which allegedly placed bets on wher exams will be conducted as scheduled or postponed. Police have arrested seven people but racket's kingpin has mand to escape. Apart from exams, seven arrested were also placing bets on numbers of stock markets.
"We have busted a betting-gambling racket and arrested 7 people on Friday. We have recovered Rs 38.25 Lakhs cash, 10 mobile phones and a register from ir repossession. Racket's kingpin mand to escape. It was found that y were also placing bets on NEET-JEE exams -if exams will be held or t," Superintendent of Kanpur Police (South) Deepak Bhuker said while dressing a press conference.

"y used to place bets on last two digits of closing and opening of market. Racket's kingpin Santosh Soni mand to escape. He used to run racket through WhatsApp. y were into this for past 4 years. We are also checking ir call detail record (CDR) for furr investigation," he ded.

Even as Opposition has been vehemently holding protests demanding postponement of exams due to COVID-19 threat, Centre is of opinion that y have alrey been postponed twice in view of pandemic and any furr delay would be playing with future of students. Hence, Centre has decided to go ahe with exams as scheduled. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Thursday stated that career of students was first priority for Union government. He maintained that one year of students should t be wasted. Moreover, he quoted Supreme Court order which found merit in postponing JEE and NEET exams.

While Centre is facing criticism from Opposition for conducting JEE Mains and NEET in view of rising COVID-19 cases, over 100 acemicians from various universities in India and abro have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that delaying medical and engineering entrance exams any furr will mean compromising future of students.
Pokhriyal ded that Union Health Secretary h written to top ministrative officials in states to ensure that safety of candidates is given paramount importance. ditionally, he hailed guidelines issued by National Testing ncy for preventing spre of COVID-19. Around 9.53 lakh candidates have registered for JEE-Main examination which will be held between September 1 to 6, while NEET examination is scheduled for September 13 for which 15.97 lakh students have registered.
