PIL in Delhi HC for direction to Delhi govt to provide basic facilities to migrant labourers

A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking direction to the AAP government to take all measures for the welfare of migrant labourers, including providing them basic facilities and checking the spread of coronavirus among them.

A PIL has been filed in Delhi High Court seeking direction to AAP government to take all measures for welfare of migrant labourers, including providing m basic facilities and checking spread of coronavirus among m. petition, likely to come up for hearing on Tuesday, also sought direction to Delhi government to follow guidelines issued by Centre as also parameters of social distancing, health and hygiene to contain spread of COVID-19.

PIL filed by Manish Singh, who claims to be an activist, said authorities have failed to set up a mechanism to ensure that thousands of migrant workers do t congregate at one particular centre setting at ught entire system of social distancing.

It claimed that authorities are herding migrant labourers, who wish to go to ir native place, like cattle and dropping m at various locations/ schools/ community centres as per ir whims and fancies without providing m basic facilities for survival in present heat wave condition. plea sought direction to authorities to provide basic facilities, including food, proper shelter, toilets and drinking water, to migrant labourers who are stationed at various centres pursuant to ir registration for travel and screening.

“se labourers, in light of directions issued by Government of India, from time to time, reach nearest centre where y could get mselves registered so that y could be permitted to board various trains going to ir native places.

“However, upon reaching designated centres, most of labourers return empty handed and those who are successful are picked and dumped by respondent (Delhi government) at schools, etc, where re are basic facilities and provision for food for se labourers,” it claimed.

petitioner said he has sent an e-mail to authorities regarding this in May but action was taken.
