Police safely rescue newborn girl child kidnapped from Delhi's hospital

A police official said that a Rohini district police team has rescued a kidnapped newborn girl child from Delhi and arrested an alleged woman.

New Delhi: The Delhi police has safely rescued a newborn baby girl, who was kidnapped from a hospital located in Delhi's Rohini district. The rescued baby has been handed over to their parents. A woman allegedly involved in the kidnapping of the girl child has also been arrested by the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini district), Dr Guriqbal Singh Sidhu said that a police team of North Rohini police station has done commendable job by arresting an alleged woman who was found involved in the kidnapping of a newborn baby girl from BSA Hospital, Rohini.

500 CCTV cameras were analysed to trace the kidnapped child, say police

“On January 3, a 19-year-old complainant reported that her newborn baby girl had been kidnapped from Labour Ward, BSA Hospital by an unknown woman. On the statement of the complainant, a case was registered at North Rohini police station in Delhi and the investigation was taken up,” the DCP said.

DCP Sidhu added, “In view of the sensitivity of the case, a special team was constituted to recover the kidnapped newborn baby. The team immediately analyzed the CCTV footage of the cameras installed in and outside of the hospital. In one of the CCTV footage, a woman was seen leaving the corridor of the labour ward of the Hospital with a kidnapped newborn baby.”

Further, to trace the woman, more than 500 CCTV footage of possible routes in the vicinity were analyzed. During which, in one of the CCTV footage at Rohini West metro station, the alleged woman was seen boarding a red e-Rickshaw with the kidnapped baby.

With persistent efforts, the registration number of the E-rickshaw was traced which was found to be registered in the name of Avinash, a resident of Budh Vihar, Delhi. The driver of the E-rickshaw was examined, who revealed that on January 3 at about 7.00 am, he had dropped a lady, carrying a small baby, near the main gate of ESI Hospital in Rohini Sector-15.

“During further investigation, it was learnt that she had interacted with two persons in front of DTC Depot, Rohini. The police team traced both the persons and came to know that the lady had used their mobile phone for making a call. Finally, on the basis of technical surveillance, alleged Mamta (name changed), a resident of Badli was apprehended in the case and the kidnapped baby girl was recovered from her possession safely,” said the police official.

Further legal action is under progress.
