Punjab Police dismisses ASI accused of attempting to rape 10-yr-old girl

Punjab Police on Monday said it has dismissed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from service for allegedly attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl in Gurdaspur district.

Punjab Police on Monday said it has dismissed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from service for allegedly attempting to rape a 10-year-old girl in Gurdaspur district.

accused, Surinder Kumar, allegedly tried to rape girl in Mahavir Nagar area of Batala on Saturday, a Punjab Police spokesperson said.

ASI was arrested after a case was filed against him under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on basis of a complaint lodged by girl's grandmor at Civil Lines police station on Sunday, he said.

"Subsequently, DGP, Dinkar Gupta, ordered dismissal of ASI posted at Sadar police station," spokesperson said.

DGP also ordered Batala police to expedite investigations for early filing of charge sheet against accused, he said.

According to complaint filed in case, girl had come out of her house at around 1 pm to buy something. accused, who was her neighbour, took girl to his home and attempted to rape her, spokesperson said.

He said ASI was drunk at time of incident. PTI SUN AD
